Music is at the very heart of school life at Ilminster Avenue E-ACT Academy.
We are incredibly lucky to be a part of the Preludes project that is run through the Bristol Ensemble. This project gives every child from Reception to Year 6 the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument in their weekly music lessons. Children then have the opportunity to take this further and have lessons in a small group and/or attend brass and string clubs run by the Preludes team. We are a singing school and put on regular productions and performances to showcase our children’s various musical talents.
Ilminster also has a school orchestra and a school choir who regularly go “on tour” to various venues in Bristol including City Hall, Cabot Circus, The Colston Hall and St Mary Redcliffe church. Last year we also started The Ilmo Community Choir which includes staff and parents.
Recently a short film was made showing how music helps children learn and we are one of the two schools featured. You can watch it here: http://musichelpsuslearn.co.uk/
